Thank you Ohio!
An essay on vaporwave finds a peer-reviewed home
I have some wonderful news! An expanded version of my essay, “Looking for Ghosts Amongst the Dead Internet – The Philosophy of vaporwave” has been published in a peer-reviewed academic journal. I would love to give a huge thank you to the biannual journal, Rhizomes: Cultural Studies in Emerging Knowledge, for including my work in their latest publication.
To read my article in its entirety, and to read the rest of the journal, please visit Rhizomes.net.
A bit random, but I would also like to thank the people of Ohio. Not only is Rhizomes based out of Bowling Green State University, but back during my podcasting days I somehow had 100-200 regular listeners from Columbus. No idea how they found “Getting Weird, with Ashley Good,” but for some reason it resonated there.
I will be honest, I have never actually been to Ohio and I know very little about it. I know that The Drew Carey Show was set there (Mimi forever!) and they make something called Cincinnati chili which I am skeptical of but willing to try. Also, apparently in 2024 kids were using the name “Ohio” as slang for “weird.” So, maybe Ohioans are actually my long-lost people. One day when the world calms down, I will visit.
Thank you again to the editorial team at Rhizomes, and to the people of Ohio for understanding my type of creativity. <3
